Suite Life at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.

I have been researching hotels in Kuala Lumpur for quite some time and have decided to book my stay at the GHKL after reading reviews as well as obtaining a status match to Hyatt Diamond. I called up the hotel directly and wanted to apply my diamond suite upgrade which they happily processed for me.

In keeping with my pledge of budgeting for this trip the hotel was offering elite rates for $137AUD per night which would guarantee a suite upgrade as well as elite benefits of lounge access for breakfast and all day refreshments and free wi fi which balanced and justified itself for the price per night.

I originally planned to book a 7 night stay which was the maximum nights that you can redeem on a suite upgrade but decided to split my stay across the Doubletree (which ill post a review later on) and the GH. When our driver approached the hotel I could see it was 10:45am and knowing there could be a chance our room wouldn't be ready so I had a backup plan of shopping at Suria while being whisked up the elevator to the sky lobby.

One of the lovely features of the hotel is the beautiful lobby located on level 39th floor with breathtaking views of the Petrona's towers and KL tower. We approached one of the desks manned by Melissa as she welcomed us and commenced check in procedures where she advised our suite was ready but it would take approximately one hour for housekeeping to arrange the suite . I lost count of how many times Melissa apologised and told her it was no problem's at all and we had plans to go shopping and have brunch.

After making a phone call and furiously banging away at her keyboard, Melissa's supervisor steps in and takes over her position and ferociously types away as Melissa escorts us towards the lifts to take us down to the grand club in order to freshen up and grab a bite to eat.

We decided to grab a table by the windows and watch the city landscape as Melissa disappears and arranges our room.

After taking a sip of my lemonade, Melissa hurries back towards us and informs us that she has arranged for our room to be located on level 33 although apologises again that we would have views of the city which was perfectly fine for me. Melissa offers to escort us towards our room and explains that each floor has 4 corner suites that feature ceiling to floor views of the city as well as a very large lounge room and very luxurious bathtub fit for a king.

As we arrived in our suite, I noticed there is another  couple who were in the room 3320 right next door to us who commented on how exquisite our room was. Melissa gave us a tour on the room and informed us our luggage would be s up shortly and told us to relax as she wished us a pleasant stay.

The lounge room was is very spacious which featured a separate toilet for entertaining purposes found towards the left as you walk into the room.

The TV is on a wall mount which can easily be positioned to a nice viewing angle as the couches are slightly skewed due to the position of the TV, another feature the Hyatt should of included was a dvd player!

While busy taking pictures of our room there was a knock on the door and without hesitation I was greeted by housekeeping with a trolley containing our diamond amenities which included:

 A large fruit bowl.

Two bottles of Evian still drinking water.

Three jars of sweets which included sugar coated nuts, m&m's and butter biscuits. I remember seeing other guys question about these three jars and if they were complimentary -  well the answer is yes!

Decor throughout the room is sophisticated with polished wooden flooring creating a airy atmosphere combined with ceiling to floor views of the city. The room's air conditioning was separated into two zones, the lounge room and the bath and bedroom which was individually controlled from each area which was a great bonus as we liked our room temperature to be slightly cosier than the lounge room which worked out really well.

 The bedroom is spacious with the king bed centred on a circular and detailed rug which was highly comfortable and fantastic when coming back from a hot and humid day exploring.

Lighting is plentiful around the entire room which is a delight as there's nothing worse than a gloomy and dark room.

The spacious bathroom was large enough for a party of ten was in a league of its own which was lavishly decorated with marble surrounding's featuring luxurious toiletries from June Jacobs.

If the bath is not for you the bathroom also has a rain shower cubicle.

The bathroom  featured a very good selection of mirrors as well as throughout the vicinity of the suite which enhances the feel of the room as there's nothing worse than selecting your outfit and then face the dilemma of a gloomy and mirror less room.

A very large working desk for those who are here on business trips, there's a standard British powerpoint as well as a universal one.

 

Missing something or need extra items? Missing Must Have's is a very smart initiative though up by Hyatt. 

As I was preparing to head out there was another knock on the door and to my surprise Hyatt deliver a welcoming card and a scrumptious chocolate mousse birthday cake!

I decided to head downstairs and check out the pool which was empty at time resulting in a peaceful nap as well as a refreshing swim and gym session afterwards, theres also a kids pool just next to the adults pool for easy supervision.

The very spacious gym was also located on level two which features a wide variety of workout machines and weights for use. The gym requires card swipe for access after hours.

 Weight machines were widely available. 

Personal toiletries and amenities were available for guests including mouthwash, dental kits, deodorant and hair product.

The gym toilets/ shower area were kept tidy and spotless which included towels, water bottles as well as lockers contained bath robes and slippers. 

Being a diamond member, you have a choice of breakfast either in the lounge or in the hotel restaurant as I later found out thanks to my buddy Albert! With that in mind we headed up to 38 and was warmly welcomed by the attendant as she asked for the room number and within seconds she escorted us to a table with views of the twin towers. 

I had a thought in my mind that maybe we should head back up to the lounge as I knew I didn't want to have a breakfast feast that would induce food coma upon us but hey, we were on a holiday began to relax my mind as the journey to explore the restaurant began. I was like a child unleashed in a candy store, I made my way to the dim sum section and worked my way down towards the pancake section then made my way back to the table and began to eat. It had been 5 minutes and there was no sign of my partner, I decided to take a sip of my tea and saw him return carrying three plates... he told me there was more food stations to be discovered. I was speechless, I needed to interact and so off I went. 

I walked to the end of the pancake station and to my satisfaction there were indeed more stations... It was like I just discovered gold! All I could see was food left, centre and right,  from a glorious fruit juice bar, a extensive cheese station that went hand in hand with the cold cut meats as well as another omelette station, did I mention the pastry and bread station?! It was a breakfast culinary and interaction journey and I had to sample every single dish... but that never happened, my eyes were bigger than my stomach and as I browsed and lurked around the food I suddenly became full.

The pancakes that I ordered earlier were ready, I had the choices between vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon or mango but decided to limit the decision to chocolate and vanilla with toppings of fresh honey and good old Nutella.

 Freshly squeezed delicious juices were Rockmelon, Watermelon and orange while smoothie choices were strawberry, banana or mango.  

 The milk choices on offer, I absolutely adored the soy milk which was very creamy in texture and tasty! Also notice the yoghurt and yakult on offer at the back.

Evening came and it was time to head up to the lounge on level 37 for refreshments and evening canapés.  There was a variety of alcoholic beverages, food and snacks available which was constantly replenished as I sat and gazed at the twin towers.
